A new edition of the important work which was once to be found in almost every school bag in Connemara and throughout Ireland. As well as some of Pádraic Mac Piarais’s writings from An Claidheamh Soluis, this collection also includes the most well known of Mac Piarais’s short stories which have been loved by generations of Irish readers. The characters in these stories remain as compelling as ever and this new edition will introduce a new generation of readers to stories like ‘Bríd na nAmhrán’, ‘Íosagán’ and, of course, the wonderful and moving ‘Eoghainín na nÉan.’
Pádraic Mac Piarais was born in Dublin in 1879. He first took an interest in the Irish language as a child and played an active role in Conradh na Gaeilge from 1896. He was appointed as the editor of An Claidheamh Soluis in 1903 and started creative writing in 1905; writing essays, plays, short stories and poetry.
