A century after the beginning of efforts to revive the Irish language, it is perhaps in a weaker position now than it has ever been. However, seeing the language as a resource to help us address the deep crisis through which the country is living can provide a new opportunity for revival efforts. The text identifies key weaknesses of our economic, political, social and cultural situation, placing emphasis on the deficiencies of thinking and intellectual life. This takes us back to the revival efforts of a century ago and the need to identify why they have had such limited success. The booklet offers a new understanding of the importance of Irish and, in particular, its potential to allow us become again a more European country with a multilingual culture and society.
