The short stories in Gonta are a multilingual project in Irish, English and Dutch. The author created the stories first in one of the three languages and subsequently translated them to the other two languages.
Some of the original stories in Irish were published in the literary magazine Comhar, and the story ‘What’s a man without a brother’ (the English version of another story in the collection) was shortlisted for the Fish Short Story Prize 2012. The author plans to publish a selection of the stories in English and in Dutch in the future. And another language has also left its mark on these stories: Bahia Portuguese, the language of the characters who inhabit these stories.
