Aisteoirí Ghaoth Dobhair have had a national and international reputation for many years as one of the best drama companies in the country. They snatched trophies and prizes at many festivals, festivities and competitions and it has been said that they were the society that achieved the most status for Irish language drama. This book tells the story of the society from 1931 to 1981, the plays they performed, the challenges they overcame, the awards they won and the other achievements they made during those years. It also provides an insight into the history of Gaoth Dobhair in the twentieth century and the main figures who have been involved in the Actors since their inception, including Áine Nic Giolla Bhríde, who was the society’s leader and backbone for a long time since its foundation.
